The US energy efficiency requirements

The America’s current energy LED bulbs as well as LED high bay lights require all the LED lamps to have Lighting Facts label, Energy Star and finally DLC. They all belong to a voluntary request. Here are the requirements as per each of the above bodies.

1. Energy Efficiency Lighting Facts label requirements

The US department of energy (DOE) recently announced that the implementation of the energy efficiency labeling is for LED lighting products and is intended to “Give them the Facts”. The product’s performance parameters include initial lumen, initial luminous efficiency lm per watt, an output power W, correlated color temperature CCT and color rendering index CRI.

They have also added two optional indicators to the lighting facts requirements that were enacted in October 2012. They include quality assurance based on LM 80 and TM 21 test to gain lumen maintenance. The applicable range of the LED lighting products are lamps with complete AC or DC power supply, low voltage of 12 V, detachable power LED lamps and linear or modular products.

The NA range of the LED lighting products include solar or the batter powered LED lighting, shape of the LED lights as well as LED lamp panel. They have to be issued with an accredited laboratory test data and reports for it to be very effective. Consumers can then entrust the laboratory register or simply register online.

2. Energy Star efficiency requirements

The energy star logo of energy was jointly created by the Environmental Protection Agency EPA department in 1992. The main goal is to promote the high quality and energy efficient lighting design which should be popular in all the industrial and commercial lighting fields. The US usually uses the DLC’s certified products. The current technical requirements of DLC form the most recent version which involves outdoor lighting products that are mainly concentrated in industrial and commercial buildings with the LED lighting such as outdoor walls, garage lights, LED high bay light and other lighting products.

Its scope and products of the energy start does not overlap. DLC’s main performance of its products include the total flux, belts luminous flux, luminous efficacy, color parameters, color rendering index, power factor, lumen maintenance as well as harmonic distortion.
