The UK project to switch 16000 Streetlights to LED by 2017

Time:2015-12-02 Hits:2781 Compile:SUNPER

The United Kingdom is expected to switch sixteen thousand streetlights to LED before the year 2017. The United Kingdom has several counties and an example of them include the Cumbria County. All the counties in this great kingdom are expected to execute the conversion from the streetlights to LED as according to the United Kingdom plan. The Cumbria County is a county that is known mostly due to its natural beauty. This county has LED switch plan for up to sixteen thousand high pressure as well as low pressure sodium lanterns. All these are within this beautiful county.

In order to achieve the target of the sixteen thousand streetlights to LED, there are some things that must be done to help this work out. Some of these things include cooperating with the Lumicom. Lumicom is a non-profit making producer and its compliance scheme provides a guidance of the non-household market entry as well as the WEE regulations. Therefore, cooperating with the Lumicom will be of great importance as it will help to achieve this target by the year 2017.

It is worth noting that the major project includes the disposal plus the recycling of the conventional streetlights. In addition to this, there is also conversion to the use of the LED. This project started in the year 2014 and it is expected to be executed fully by the year 2017. Thus, it is a three year project with extensive work. The Cumbria CC project will help to save up to GBP 430,000 which is equivalent to $650,289 per year with the LED streetlights. This is a huge profit and hence the project will have a positive effect to the residents.

In the first stage of the project, which is the 2014 to 2015, about 2500 conventional streetlights were removed as well as recycled. This was done through the Lumicom WEE recycling system. In the current stage which is 2015 to 2016, the collection has been reported to be 5600 with a further 2800 fixtures. They are all for collection as well as conversion. These figures were taken up to November this year (2015).

The most interesting thing is that around twelve thousand streetlights are expected to be collected throughout the period of the three years that is 2016 to 2017. This means that there is still more which has not been achieved and most probably by the end of the period given will have been obtained. This is because the project is scheduled to be completed by March in the year 2017 and thus more and more things can still be done.
