Various Warehouse Lighting Options to Use

Time:2015-08-13 Views:3922 Compile:SUNPER

Lightings in commercial establishments such as warehouses are very important. This is because of the simple lighting purposes and also for security reasons. Highly valuable things usually stored in warehouses such as equipments, stocks, valuable furniture, gadgets and many others. This is why warehouses are among the target of robbers. Therefore, it is highly important to make sure that your warehouse is well secured using the LED lighting options. There are various lighting options for warehouse lighting available in the market. They include the following.

Mercury vapor lights - These lights have poor color rendering index as well as low light output per watt. A mercury vapor lamp is simply a gas discharge lamp which uses an electric arc through vaporized mercury so as to produce light. They are more energy efficient compared to fluorescent and incandescent lights. They have a long bulb lifetime with high intensity. For these reasons, they are used in large areas for overhead lighting such as in factories and warehouses.

High pressure sodium lamps - They have a lamp life of 12,000 hours and poor color rendering index but with a good raw lumens output. One of the main uses for these lights is in open parking areas where color discrimination is not very crucial. However, these high pressure sodium lights are more economical based on the LED technology. They can also be used in warehouses.

Metal halide lamps - A metal halide lamp is simply an electric lamp which produces light by use of an electric arc through a mixture of vaporized mercury as well as metal halides. They have an average lifetime of 12,000 to 15,000 hours and they are good for color rendering properties. They are a bit expensive compared to other HPS light sources.

Fluorescent tubes and CFLs - They are generally used for lighting indoor spaces and they are suitable for low temperature operation thereby making them unsuited for use in cold store locations and in cold climates. The problem of short life span and mercury contamination compared to LEDs.

LED bay light - They produce high CRI directional light. The lumens are achieved at desired points and therefore they are better. A 34 Watt LED fixture can replace an alternate lighting devices using as high as 445 Watts of electricity. The lamp life is generally 30,000 hours or more. An added advantage is that these lights are not affected by on and off cycling and are also amenable to control by the intelligent systems thereby increasing the possibilities of energy savings.

Most of the HID lamps used in warehousing facilities have significant warm up and do not achieve full brightness instantly. Some of the HID lights have extended re-strike time. The lamp must be allowed to cool first before switching it on again. However, one needs to make some considerations when designing warehouse lighting which include the following.

The frequency at which the warehouse space is used

Uniformity of use

Cost of maintenance including the cost of replacement, equipment, labor charges and cost of disruption business activities.

The desired temperature of the store

Further more, you may feel confused how to replace Mercury Vapor, High Pressure Sodium, Metal Halide, and CFLs with energy saving lights or led bay lights, this page(http://www.sunper.net/blog/articles_400W-Metal-Halide-replacement-solution/) will provide some tips for you.
